Optimisation is where the connection between the Vodafone network and your Mobile Broadband device is optimised to increase the performance. Optimisation can help you connect and send data quicker. The optimisation utilises compression techniques which improve internet connectivity.
Optimisation improves the performance of your 3G/LTE connection by decreasing the amount of data that you send and receive for the same amount of content.
Vodafone have placed an Optimisation server in the 3G/LTE network, which works in partnership with an Optimisation client piece of software that is included with VMB 10. When the Optimisation client is started it contacts the Optimisation server and begins to compress the data that you send and receive.
Protocols Optimised include HTTP, POP3, FTP, SMTP and IMAP, as well as image reduction.
The Optimisation Client is provided free of charge with Vodafone Mobile Broadband Device. By using the Optimisation client, your 3G/LTE usage and bill, will actually decrease for the same amount of content transferred.

Using the Optimisation Client in conjunction with a VPN Client provides no performance improvement as you traffic is encrypted end-to-end and there is no content for the Optimisation Client to work on.
Similarly you may experience difficulty establishing VPN connections with some Vendor's VPN Clients when the Optimisation Client is running. If this occurs we recommend disabling the Optimisation Client when attempting to use a VPN client.
